This morning we woke up to the same, unshuffled morning playlist – Hotel California may be a banger but hearing it every day when you wake up kind of takes the fun out of it. Breakfast was a great array, lots of us made hot chocolate and coffee and tea and I had cornflakes with some fruit, along with a nice big mug of hot chocolate. At 9, we all gathered and picked our jobs for the day. Lots of people were working on the girl’s dormitories, bricklaying, mixing concrete, and moving bricks and concrete to where it was needed. A group of us were painting in one of our buildings, doing a first layer of paint on our common area as it hadn’t previously been painted. I was in charge of the work playlist, which I hope everyone enjoyed, but it was just consisting of my favourite songs – no one seemed to complain. Painting was pretty chill and definitely beat being outside in the boiling sun all day, though quite a few of our group were complaining about not being able to get a tan. We all stopped for lunch and after, got in a quick game of volleyball. In the afternoon, we went out in groups to the town to do some shopping and I bought an awesome pair of sunglasses and a hockey jersey. We stopped by at the supermarket and I bought some snacks to share in my room while we chat and read and just hang out. It’s such a lovely group of people here, I’ve been talking to people that I’d hardly ever spoken to before and I’ve made a bunch of new friends. This evening, we played a game of football against the Ugandan students. Go Muzungu AFC !! (that’s our football team, captained by Oz, who had bought a captain’s arm band in town earlier today). I wasn’t there for the game but apparently we were 4:4 at full-time, with Eoin having scored a hattrick, and we won in sudden-death penalties, so everyone was really happy. At the moment, we’ve invited the younger students to play lego with us and it’s a really great opportunity to bond with the students. I called my parents this evening to catch up with them (dad if you’re reading this, happy birthday. I hope you had a great time and send my love to mum, Joey, and Erin xx)
